What Actually Fits: Packing a Sling Bag for a Full Day Out
By DOSYSO Editorial · 9 March 2026 · 5 min read

The complaint we hear most about small bags is that everything ends up in a tangle at the bottom. It is almost never a capacity problem — it is a packing-order problem. A 23 × 14 cm sling holds far more than people expect once things go in standing up rather than lying down.
Start with the flat layer against your body: a long wallet, slid in vertically along the back wall. Long wallets are shaped for exactly this, and keeping it upright means you can pull it out at a counter without emptying the bag first. If your sling has a hidden back zip pocket, that is where the metro card and a folded note live.
The middle is for the things you reach for constantly — phone, keys, lip balm. Give them the space nearest the zip, not the corners. A small pouch for earphones and cables stops the classic problem of a charging cable wrapping itself around everything else in the bag.
Corners take the awkward objects: a compact, a mini deodorant, a folded tote for shopping. And if you carry sunglasses, use a hard case in the front pocket — loose sunglasses in a soft bag get scratched by keys within a week.
Pack it this way twice and it stops being a system and becomes a habit. The test of a good sling is not how much it holds, but whether you can find what you need at a traffic light without looking.
